Hello! I am Ashley.
Welcome to my metaphorical table to break some bread and enjoy all things food related. Whether it be recipes I create or foods from other cultures that I learn to make, I hope to create a community that celebrates whole foods and all their benefits.
Who am I?
I am a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP). I have two (and counting) energetic, sweet boys. Thankfully, I married a man that happily tries any food that comes out of my kitchen and who loves to travel and experience new cultures and their foods.
Why the heck am I starting a food blog? (ya know, because there are so few of them out there!)
About a year ago (yes, I have been procrastinating) I was reading through Michael Pollan’s book, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto, and a quote caught my attention.
“The shared meal elevates eating from a mechanical process of fueling the body to a ritual of family and community, from the mere animal biology to an act of culture.”
Yes! That’s it! I realized that this quote highlighted much of the transition I went through as I recovered from years of issues with food and weight. I learned that food wasn’t simply a collection of protein, fat, and carbs. Food really is so much more.
As Hippocrates says, “Let food be thy medicine…” Food nourishes us both physically and emotionally. And, when we can take that food and share it with others, it becomes more meaningful. That is exactly what I want to do with YOU!
I look forward to sharing recipes and food explorations with you. Maybe you will be inspired to cook something you have never tried before and invite some friends over to share in the meal with you. Or maybe you will catch the travel bug and head to the Philippines (or a friend whose mother makes a killer batch) to try some adobo. Or to Italy to try some fresh made pasta or risotto. You may even make a small change such as relaxing a bit and enjoying your meal at the table rather than on the go.
Whatever it is, welcome to my table, and I look forward to this meal together!
